The Small Directive

The Small Directive came into force in January 2007. The aim of the directive will be to both decrease the amount of electrical and electronic equipment being made by homes and companies equally and to motivate everyone to take accountability for the safe disposal and recycling of their redundant electrical equipment. This then reduces landfill use and greatly helps the environment.

We work with our associates to achieve cost effective alternatives for the safe disposal and where possible the recycling of small things to fulfill the requirements set out in the directive. We offer a complete, high quality, cost effective, start to finish service, including, collection, transport, recycling and disposal of your small things. This then allows you peace of mind knowing your redundant, broken or used small things have been dealt with in compliance together with the correct legal procedures.

All BWM staff are security vetted on an ongoing yearly basis, they’re uniformed and have ID Cards. All our drivers have ADR Permits for hazardous waste transport. We use just registered unmarked vehicles with satellite navigation and mobile tracking. On collection we provide a certificate of clearance/waste transport consignment note with driver’s signature. These are kept on record for 6 years.

Your small does not leave the vehicle until it reaches the depot, where it’s unloaded for recycling or disposal, typically the same day. Many equipment now collected is consigned for physical destruction with recovery of the many material components. The equipment is stripped down and any info is ruined, any dangerous elements are removed, for example: gas discharge lamps and lithium cells on the motherboards. The remaining material is then split, shredded and processed. Ferrous, non-ferrous and precious metals are recovered from the equipment and sent for recycling.

A certificate of destruction can be provided, if requested, typically by e-mail attachment as evidence that your WEEE has been recycled or destroyed. To compliment the above local waste management is registered on the Data Protection Register, we hold an authorized waste carriers permit and have full liability insurance to insure the work.
